Lockout/Tagout Control ProceduresIn a recent year, there were over 240 fatalities in the workplace resulting from human contact with electrical current. Many of these deaths resulted from the unexpected energizing of a machine during maintenance or repair; had the machine been properly de-energized while being worked on, unnecessary deaths could have been prevented.

To reduce the hazards of working on or around energized equipment, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) established guidelines for lockout/tagout programs in the workplace, procedures that instruct workers how to turn off and disconnect machines from their energy source to prevent worker injuries and deaths.

Providing learners with potentially life-saving information, this course describes the hazards of working with electricity, explains the steps involved in proper lockout/tagout procedures, and outlines the elements of an effective workplace energy control program.
